The winter art exhibition in the Raymond S. Wilkes Gallery for the Visual Arts will open next week, featuring the work of artists from the Canal Winchester Artists Guild.

“We are very excited to show the work of local artists at OUL,” said Ohio University Lancaster Development Director Mandi Custer. “Showcasing the work of talented artists in Fairfield County is something we love to do in the Wilkes Gallery.”

The exhibit is called Art Speaks: The Work of the Canal Winchester Artists Guild. It will open on Thursday, Jan. 29 at 5 p.m. The exhibition will also include pieces by students at Canal Winchester High School. The show, which is free and open to the public, will run until March 27.

“The opening is a chance for community members to meet the artists and discuss their work with them,” said Custer. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to learn the story behind the art.”

The mission of the Canal Winchester Artists Guild is to stimulate interest in the visual arts throughout the community, promote local artist through exhibits and programs, and provide opportunities for its members to foster and to encourage others in artistic development.

Gallery hours during the exhibit will be Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Weekend hours will be available upon request. The Raymond S. Wilkes Gallery for the Visual Arts is located on the 5th floor of Brasee Hall. The gallery hosts several exhibits each year. Admission is free.
