Stuart’s Opera House, located on the historic Public Square in Nelsonville, recently received significant support for its capital campaign from The First National Bank of McConnelsville. Bank president John Keirns pledged $50,000 in support of the campaign.

Stuart’s Next Stage Campaign is an expansion and improvement initiative, with a goal of $4 million for capital improvements and $2 million to establish an endowment fund.

This initiative will increase Stuart’s education and production capabilities, add to the ability to host private events and large receptions, and improve the overall experience for patrons. The education and production programs will utilize the previously unused space in the adjacent building, 30 Public Square.

“Stuart’s is not just a Nelsonville institution, it is a regional draw and economic driver…support from all over is vital,” stated Mark Snider of Athens, a campaign volunteer and supporter.

The region’s youth also need need a safe place to meet and to have education opportunities, according to campaign co-chair Bob Garbo.

“Our financial institutions can and have stepped up to support the youth of our region,” he said.

Stuart’s Opera House was built in 1879 and is the cornerstone of the public square in Nelsonville, Ohio. For the past 12 years, the Opera House has seen continued growth and expansion of programs, including a growing Arts Education program.
