Federal Hocking Local School District has begun the process of searching for a new principal at Amesville Elementary for the second time in as many years.

The new search comes following the November resignation of Lisa Imel, who resigned less than six months after being hired by the district.

Following the resignation the district hired a head teacher rather than principal for the remainder of the 2014-15 school year.

Cathe Blower, a first grade teacher at Amesville, has been serving in the role of head teacher since December. The position is considered a supplemental contract in the amount of $3,000 for the year. She is expected to serve as head teacher through June.

At Tuesday evening’s Board meeting, Supt. George Wood said he would open the position up within the district on Wednesday morning as an internal posting. Wood stated he believed there would be some interest from those currently employed by the district.

If there are internal applicants one could be presented to the Board at the March meeting for hire. If not, the position would then proceed to an external job posting.

The resignation of Imel came in November with a settlement agreement approved by Imel and the Board.

Under the terms of the settlement agreement the effective date of Imel’s resignation is April 3, 2015, although her last day at Amesville was Nov. 11, 2014.

The agreement stated that Imel was to be placed on sick leave beginning on Jan. 1, 2015 through the effective date of her resignation. She will remain eligible for insurance benefits through April 30, 2015, according to the agreement.

Imel was hired on a one-year contract to replace long-time principal Kim Chadwell who retired during the 2013-14 school year. Chadwell had served as the principal at Amesville since 2000 when she came over from Federal Hocking Middle School.
