This Spring, the Ohio University Women’s Center is hosting events that showcase and celebrate women and feminists from around the world.

Two major events include the International Women’s Day Festival and A Celebration of Women and Feminists in the Arts.

International Women’s Day Festival

On March 15 in the Baker Center Ballroom, students and members of the community are invited to attend the 7th annual International Women’s Day Festival. This event, which corresponds with the UN’s International Women’s Day, will celebrate women’s and girl’s achievements all around the world.

Women’s Center and LGBT Center Program Coordinator Sarah Tucker Jenkins said that all women on campus are encouraged to get involved through vending, displaying artwork and research, reading poetry, making speeches, and more. A fashion show will also take place, showcasing contemporary and traditional styles.

“I think it’s important to bring people of various cultural backgrounds together and to celebrate the accomplishments of women around the world, while also pointing out a lot of things that still need to be worked on,” Jenkins said.

Those who are interested in vending, performing, showcasing art, or modeling in the fashion show must fill out the application on the Women’s Center website: https://ohiowomenscenter.wufoo.com/forms/z19unspg0x42nqa/

A Celebration of Women and Feminists in the Arts

On April 22, the second annual Celebration of Women and Feminists in the Arts will take place in the Women’s Center in Baker 403. This event is open to all women on campus and in the community, including LGBTQ individuals and other gender non-conformists.

Jenkins described the event as very casual.

“It’s a place for women and feminists to share and view art in all mediums, including dance, songs, paintings, and alternative expressions,” she explained. “Because of the success of last year’s event, we’re going to make it a tradition.”

Those who wish to be involved in the event must email Jenkins at jenkins1@ohio.edu by April 1.
