COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – A legislative panel in Ohio has changed a bill banning the sale of pure caffeine products to also ban powdered or crystalline alcohol.

The House Government Accountability and Oversight Committee amended the caffeine measure Tuesday to include powdered alcohol. The powder is sold online and can be added to any beverage to make it an alcoholic drink.

The House previously passed legislation banning powdered alcohol, though the bill is pending in the Senate.

The revised bill would make it a misdemeanor offense to sell products consisting solely or primarily of caffeine that’s manufactured into a crystalline, liquid or powdered form. The proposal comes after an 18-year-old LaGrange teenager overdosed on caffeine powder and died last year.

The amended bill is set to be considered by the full House on Wednesday.
