For the second year running, ARTS/West will host the opening event for the month-long Athens Steampunk Spectacle, a collaboration of the Athens Public Library, The Athens County Historical Society and Museum, ARTS/West and Airship Athena.

Scheduled for Friday, Sept. 4, the free event will include dance performances by both the Steampunk Ballet and the Whiplash Tribal Fusion Dancers, plus a singing performance by Devin Sudman, a senior vocal major at Ohio University. Performances begin at 7 p.m.

In addition to the performances, there will be Steampunk-themed vendors selling their art and accessories. Uptown Costumes will have Steampunk costume pieces and accessories, and The Henna Faeries will provide Steampunk-themed body art. Vending and art exhibits will take place from 5-10 p.m. Light refreshments will be available.

The event will be rounded out by the presence of Athens’ own Steampunk group, Airship Athena, who will also host a costume workshop on Sunday, Sept. 20 at ARTS/West.

Other events scheduled for September include a Steampunk Train Ride on the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway (Sept. 19), the Athens Public Library Steampunk Spectacle and the Steampunk Masquerade Ball at Central Venue (both on Sept. 26).
