Ohio Bobcat volleyball swept through its first six sets of the 2015 season, but on Saturday night the ‘Cats suffered a sweep (26-24, 25-14, 25-14) at the hands of the Purdue Boilmakers.

Ohio (2-1, 0-0) kept it close in the first set, but Purdue pulled away easily in sets two and three. The Bobcats started the match with an 8-6 lead, and held that lead until the opposition tied the set at 20-20.  Shelby Walker, who led Ohio with five kills, tied the set at 24-24 before Purdue recorded two straight kills to take the set.

The Boliermakers were led by Annie Drews and Azariah Stahl on the night, as each record double-digit kills. Drews finished with 14, and Stahl was right behind with 13.

Abbey Gilleland came through with 18 of Ohio’s 21 assists, and Meredith Ashy pulled in 14 digs.

After a close first set, the Bobcats never led. The Boliermakers scored the last five points of the second set, and their 18-5 lead in set three was their largest of the night.

Ohio’s next match will be on the road again, on Tuesday, for a showdown with the Kentucky Wildcats. The match starts at 7 p.m. from Lexington, Ky.
