CLEVELAND (AP) – Ohio Lottery officials say they’re planning to hire a consultant to study how the agency can operate more efficiently but insist there aren’t any plans for privatization.

The study will include an examination of privatized lottery operations. A lottery spokeswoman says state law doesn’t allow for privatization of the agency.

The state has sought proposals for the hiring of a consultant to conduct a comprehensive review. Lottery Director Dennis Berg told the Lottery Commission recently that the goal of the assessment is to “make us more profitable, maximize revenues and do it responsibly.”

Officials say the assessment will focus on ways to make the lottery more efficient and to identify ways to generate more funds for education.
