Ohio field hockey traveled south to take on Missouri State, and ended up on the wrong side of the scoreboard. The Bobcats lost a tough fought match to the Bears, 2-0, a match that they could have won.

The game was scoreless until Missouri State’s Sydney Richelieu punched the ball through in the 25th minute. This game was heavily a defensive one as the score remained 1-0 heading into the second half.

The only other goal of the game came in the 53rd minute from Richelieu, who finished just one goal short of a hat trick, and gave the Bears a 2-0 lead, which the Bobcats were unable to crawl out of. Freshman goalkeeper Feli Heinzel put a lockdown on Ohio’s offense, with three saves in 70 minutes to preserve the shutout.

Statistically, the Bobcats out played the Bears in both shots (10-6) and penalty corners (9-6), but they just couldn’t get on the scoreboard.

After falling to Missouri State for the first time in five years the upset dropped Ohio to 5-6 and 1-1 in the Mid-American Conference. The ‘Cats hope to bounce back in a big way on Sunday as they host the Michigan State Spartans at 1 p.m. Missouri State, is now 4-9 and 1-1 in the conference.
