The Ohio swimming and diving team kicked off their Mid-American Conference season on Saturday with a meet against Bowling Green. The Bobcats hoped to recover from their loss against Ohio State the night before, but fell just short of a victory, 157.50-142.50.

The Bobcats started the meet off strong when their A relay placed second in the 200-yard medley relay at 1:47.07. Junior Bianca Hauzer also led the Bobcats in the second event of the day, placing first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:30.48. Freshman Ana Henderson followed closely behind in second place at 10:31.94, followed by senior Steph Gyurke in third place at 10:44.41.

Henderson and Hauzer also led the Bobcats in the 500-yard freestyle, placing first (5:07.53) and second (5:11.05), respectively. Junior Josie Barker swam a hard fought race but finished just behind in third place with a time of 5:11.76.

Freshman Corrin Van Lanen took home a victory in the 50-yard freestyle once again, finishing in a time of 23.63. She fell just short of a second victory in the 100-yard freestyle, placing second at 51.71. Barker placed third (53.50) and senior Haley Clark fourth (53.64) after an intense race behind Van Lanen in the 100-yard freestyle.

Senior Haleigh Bartlett also continued the success of her previous meet by placing first in both the 1-meter (278.77) and 3-meter (272.10) diving events. Sophomore Karrisa Conner brought home a second place finish in the 1-meter diving, finishing with a score of 214.05.

The Bobcats also brought home another round of first and second place finishes after an intense race in the 100-yard butterfly. Junior Carrie Dukes placed first with a time of 57.21, just ahead of Van Lanen’s second place finish at 57.29. The Bobcats finished up their meet with another close finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay, just out touching the Falcons with a time of 3:31.04.

The Bobcats will take on Akron at The Ohio University Aquatics Center on Friday at 5 p.m.
