New projects are on the way for Hocking College campus, including security upgrades and new walkways.

The Hocking College Board of Trustees approved a project for improved security, including door access control, video surveillance, mass notifications and a new ID card for students.

“This project will integrate security features designed to keep the campus community protected while also providing a one-card solution for students and staff,” according to a summary of the project, provided at the board meeting.

This plan is part of the 2011-2015 Master Technology Plan that includes collaboration with the College Police Department and the Office of Information Technology, Hocking College spokesperson Jacqueline Hagerott said at the meeting. She said integrating all security systems is important for the college in the event of an emergency.

The collaboration will provide “enhanced security, communication, protection and card services to students, faculty and staff on the Nelsonville, Logan and New Lexington campuses,” according to the project summary.

The project is expected to cost $500,000, for which capital funding will be used. Trustees approved the awarding of a contract for the security project to Feinknopf Macioce Schnappa Architects.

Another project introduced at the meeting was renovate the campus-wide sidewalks and exterior lighting for the main campus at Nelsonville.

“New sidewalks will be the appropriate width to allow for proper student and emergency response access and meet all (Americans with Disabilities Act) requirements,” documents provided at the meeting stated.

Hagerott told the board the $1 million project aims to increase energy efficiency and safety on campus.

Capital funding will be used to fund the sidewalk project as well. A contract was awarded by trustees to BDTAid, Inc.
