COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Officials say Ohio’s unemployment rate rose again in January to match the national rate, which dropped compared with the previous month.

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services said Friday that the state unemployment rate was 4.9 percent in January, up from the revised 4.8 percent in December.

The national rate dipped from 5 percent in December to 4.9 percent in January.

The number of unemployed workers in the state rose by 6,000 to 279,000. Ohio’s nonagricultural wage and salary employment basically held steady.

Job gains were reported in sectors including education and health services, leisure and hospitality, and trade, transportation and utilities. Losses were reported in professional and business services and in government employment.
