The bats came alive for the Bobcats (12-16) on Tuesday night as Ohio defeated Eastern Kentucky (13-16) 10-4 in its final game of the road trip.

After dropping two of three to Ball State over the weekend, the Bobcats needed a strong bounce-back performance against the Colonels, and they got just that.

Four Bobcats recorded multi-hit games, including a 3-4 outing for Rudy Rott. Rott also crossed the plate three times and drove in two for OU.

The top four hitters in Ohio’s lineup went 9-18 with three walks and six RBI.

On the mound, redshirt sophomore Michael Klein took the ball to start and turned out a solid outing, giving up two earned runs, three walks and four hits while also striking out five in 4.1 innings. At one point, Klein sat down 11 straight Colonels.

But it was the bullpen that stepped up big with Junior Tom Colletti pitching 2.2 scoreless innings and redshirt sophomore Jake Roehn following up with two scoreless innings of his own. Both combined for six strikeouts while only surrendering two hits.

Ohio got out to a hot start jumping ahead 6-1, but EKU chased Klein out of the game in the sixth, cutting the deficit to 6-4. However, OU quickly responded the next inning with a run on a Ty Black sac fly.

The Bobcats added two more runs the next inning to extend the lead to 9-4, and the ‘Cats tacked on their tenth and final run in the ninth with a Rott double down the right field line.

The Bobcats are back in action on Friday at 6 p.m. when they start a home series against MAC East foe Buffalo.
