Plan Delays Ohio Renewable Energy Targets Another 3 Years

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – An as-yet-to-be-introduced bill that would extend a freeze on Ohio’s renewable-energy requirements for an additional three years is already drawing opposition.
State Sen. Bill Seitz circulated the draft legislation last week. It proposes tacking another 3 years onto a 2-year delay in phasing in state targets for use of solar, wind and other renewables by Ohio power companies. The Cincinnati Republican says he’s listening to input before introducing a final bill.
Faith and environmental groups plan a Statehouse rally Tuesday seeking restoration of renewable requirements. The business group Ohio Advanced Energy Economy wrote Seitz last week urging the same.
Seitz said the legislation supports “a greener energy future for Ohio,” just without mandates. He said the bill allows time for federal clean power regulations to be sorted out.
