CLEVELAND (AP) – The Obama administration has commuted the prison sentences of 58 federal convicts, including a pair of Ohioans.

Both of the Ohioans were serving time for drug offenses. The action announced Thursday is part of a broader effort to overhaul the criminal justice system and ease punishments for nonviolent drug offenders.

Thomas Farmer, of Cincinnati, was serving a life sentence for possession with the intent to distribute cocaine. His sentence was commuted to expire in May of next year.

Aundra Coats, of Cleveland, was serving a 20-year sentence for cocaine distribution. That sentence was commuted to expire in September of this year.
