COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – A proposed state constitutional amendment aimed at legislator ethics will move forward as three separate ballot issues.

The Ohio Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a lawsuit that had been filed by proponents of a single amendment, which would cut legislator pay and impose ethical restrictions.

The Ohio Ballot Board, chaired by Secretary of State Jon Husted, decided in March to split the Ohio Ethics First Amendment into three issues, requiring thousands more voter signatures to get the items on the ballot.

Backers then sued to try to keep it as one ballot issue.

In a statement Tuesday, Husted said he was pleased with the court’s action in response to the “frivolous” lawsuit, and said someone should have been at the Ballot Board meeting in to explain the proposal.
