CINCINNATI (AP) – A federal appeals court in Cincinnati is slated to hear arguments over the way swing state Ohio maintains its voter rolls.

Voting rights groups sued the state’s elections chief in April, claiming the process wrongfully drops registered voters from the rolls based on their failure to vote in recent elections.

A federal judge rejected the lawsuit last month, saying Ohio’s procedures ensure the integrity of its election process.

Attorneys for the American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio will make the plaintiffs’ case Wednesday to a three-judge panel of the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Republican Secretary of State Jon Husted has called the lawsuit “wasteful” and says the process used by Ohio for more than 20 years is constitutional and fully complies with state and federal laws.
