The game between Ball State and Ohio was as close as it could be with the teams using up all their regulation minutes and then some in overtime before the Bobcats pulled out the 3-2 victory.

With just a 1:22 seconds left in the game the Bobcats held a 2-1 lead. However, much like in the game against Indiana, they were unable to stop a late rally as Lexi Kavanaugh found the back of the net for the Cardinals to tie the game.

Against Indiana the Bobcats fell apart in overtime but against the Cardinals they were constantly on the attack, earning three penalty shots in the overtime alone. That persistence finally paid off as Amelia Milton was able to tip in the game winner for the ‘Cats.

“We had to go into overtime, we had to work really hard … It was a really, really hard working team effort,” Milton said of the team’s effort in overtime.

In net for the Bobcats was first-time starter Alex Pennington who made a few key mistakes early on but ultimately did enough to secure the win for the Bobcats, collecting two saves. Another first on the day was Gabby Lorenzo scoring her first career goal to give the Bobcats a 2-1 edge.

Overall, Ohio outplayed Ball State moving the ball down the field and playing great defense to gain a 14-6 advantage in shots. Still there was times when the offense sputtered and the defense looked lost something they will have to improve on with conference games looming.

Ohio can next be seen at home against Central Michigan next Friday at 5 p.m.
