For the second time this season, the Ohio Bobcats defeated the Ball State Cardinals 2-1 and in doing so improved to 3-0 in Mid-American Conference play.

For the most part this game was all about who could capitalize on their opportunities.

Although Ball State had far more opportunities in this game with 15 shots to the Bobcats’ three, they only put one ball in the back of the net. Much of this was thanks to goalie Alex Pennington, who had four saves in what was one of her best games of the season.

Luckily for Ohio, they were able to capitalize on their few opportunities thanks to an offensive showing from Kendall Ballard who put home both goals for Ohio and gave them enough cushion for the victory.

Ohio got on the scoreboard first when Ballard scored her first goal of the season off of a corner 5:46 into the game. Ballard doubled Ohio’s lead just before halftime when she scored thanks to a penalty stroke.

Ball State pulled one back in the 53rd minute thanks to a goal from Carley Shannon but that’s as close as the Cardinals got.

The Bobcats will next play Longwood in Virginia at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday looking for another conference win.
