The Dairy Barn Arts Center is pleased to announce the 85 artists of Quilt National ’17, the 20th biennial juried exhibition of contemporary quilts in Athens, Ohio.

Quilt National ’17 was juried by Nancy Crow, Art Martin and Petra Fallaux. The jurors selected 85 quilts from 747 works submitted. 383 artists from 19 foreign countries and 42 states entered Quilt National ‘17. 85 artists from 28 states and nine foreign countries will be represented in the exhibition, as well as 35 first-time Quilt National exhibitors.

“The pool of submissions this year was stunning, and reviewing it, while initially daunting, revealed numerous patterns of shared aesthetic and conceptual explorations,” said Art Martin, juror and the Associate Curator/Collections Manager at the Muskegon Museum of Art. “From this blend, we singled out those artworks in the group that were visually arresting, that effectively merged the physicality of the quilting with the picture plane, and that best represented the different tracks of visual inspirations.”

“Quilt National ’17 will be our 20th exhibition and we are partnering with other art venues and businesses throughout southeastern Ohio to celebrate with quilt exhibitions, events, products, services and classes in our new fiber arts studio,” said Jane Forrest Redfern, Executive Director of the Dairy Barn Arts Center.  “This exhibition recognizes the best of contemporary quilts and we are very excited about kicking off this 20th milestone celebration with artists, jurors and partners throughout the summer and welcome visitors from all over the world that will be coming to Athens, Ohio.”

Quilt National ‘17 will be open to the public Saturday, May 27, 2017 through Sept. 4, 2017. More than 5,000 visitors are expected from all over the world to experience this contemporary collection of never before exhibited works from talented fiber artists. Once the exhibition draws to a close at the Dairy Barn Arts Center, the artists’ quilts will make their way around the globe showing in various venues.
