The Alexander Lady (16-2, 10-0) defeated the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes (14-4, 7-3) Monday night 55 to 34 clinching the Tri-Valley Conference-Ohio title and winning their 13th game in a row.

A rivalry game between the top two teams in the conference showed all night as both teams came out fighting for the top spot in the TVC, a spot they shared last season.

Alexander’s fast paced transition offense wore out the Lady Buckeyes as they were forced to play up to the Lady Spartan’s pace. All eyes were on Senior star Leah Richardson in the first half, as she dropped 16 points before halftime and maintained a comfortable lead for the Lady Spartans all game. Leah finished the game and led all scorers with 21 points.

On the other side of the ball, Alexander’s tenacious full court press and man to man defense stumped the Lady Buckeye offense and put them out of their style of play, holding a talented offense to only 19 points in the first half.

Turnovers were problematic throughout the game, and the scrappy and competitive play between the two teams forced multiple mistakes on both ends.

Alexander dominated the glass pulling down 36 rebounds, 12 of those being offensive rebounds that led to easy put back points for the Lady Spartans.

Jessie Addis, who has been fighting a season lingering injury, started off hot for the Lady Buckeyes and kept them in the game the first half. Addis finished the game with 15 points, five rebounds, and three steals.

Rachel Richardson saw the bench early in the first half as she picked up two quick fouls in the first quarter. In the second half, she played her role offensively and defensively guarding Addis. Rachel finished the game with 13 points, eight boards, three assists and two steals. 11 of those 13 points came in the second half.

This upcoming weekend, the Lady Spartans are playing in the Ironton Ohio Shootout. Friday night they play against Huntington and then Saturday afternoon they face Scott County. The Lady Buckeyes travel to Wellston Thursday night for a game against the Lady Golden Rockets, their last game of the season.
