Composer/producer Sxip Shirey is a busy man. Although his latest album, A Bottle of Whiskey and a Handful of Bees, was just released, he’s already started work on its follow-up. That is, when he’s not working on yet another project — The Gauntlet: Fredrickstad, a piece to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Norwegian city.

Shirey composed A Bottle… while touring internationally with the theater/circus arts show LIMBO, a collaboration between Strut N Fret productions in Australia and the UK-based entertainment company Underbelly. He also wrote the music for LIMBO UNHINGED, which will be performed at The Vagabond Garden of Unearthly Delights in Adelaide from Feb. 25 to March 19.

Shirey is a native of Athens, OH, and he talked about his local roots (among many other things) during an interview with WOUB’s Bryan Gibson.

“Woman of Constant Sorrow,” “Just Drive By, Firefly,” “I Gotta Man,” “Palms” and “Grandpa Charlie” are taken from Sxip Shirey’s album, “A Bottle of Whiskey and a Handful of Bees” on Via Records. Used with permission.
