The Muskingum University Department of Music will host its Fall Bands Concert on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 3 p.m. in Brown Chapel.

The performance will feature the university's Wind Ensemble and the 2013 Muskingum YouthFest Honor Band.  

A wide variety of music will be presented, ranging from staples of the wind band repertoire to a more eclectic work that utilizes electronics.  

The Wind Ensemble will also perform Ronald Lo Presti's "Elegy for a Young American," which was written in memory of President John F. Kennedy, who was assassinated 50 years ago this month.

Former Athens County resident Christopher L. Koon will accompany two soloists on the piano during a benefit concert on Friday, Nov. 8 at 8 p.m. at Immanuel Church-on-the-Hill in Alexandria, Va. Proceeds will assist with U.S. medical aid to the Philippines.

Koon is a graduate of the Ohio University School of Music. He received a bachelor of music degree from OU in 1987 and a master of music degree in 1992, both in music education and organ performance. Koon is an organist, pianist and saxophonist.

Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles wrapped up her 10-date fall tour on Saturday, Oct. 19 by performing for an enthusiastic audience at Ohio University's Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium.

The Southeast Ohio Dulcimer Festival returns to the Federal Valley Resource Center in Stewart, Ohio, Oct. 18-20, featuring workshops and performances by recording artist Esther Golton (pictured left) and festival founder and dulcimer-builder Jerry Rockwell.

The Ohio University School of Music has announced a master class, recital and lecture by visiting pianist Alex McDonald on Oct. 21-22. As a part of his residency, McDonald will host several opportunities for students and the community.

Ohio University will host multi-platinum selling singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles on Saturday, Oct. 19 as she wraps up her current tour of the East Coast and Midwest.

Bareilles first achieved mainstream critical praise in 2007 with her hit, "Love Song," which reached #1 in 22 countries.  Since then, the Eureka, Calif., native has gone on to sell over one million copies of her debut album, Little Voice, and earn three Grammy nominations, including Song of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

On Oct. 14, area high school students were treated an outdoor concert by Ohio University's Jazz Ensemble I on the steps of Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium.

The high schoolers were in town for the annual Experience the Arts Day, hosted by the Ohio University College of Fine Arts. Each year, prospective Bobcats tour the college, taking in tours, classes, rehearsals and concerts, and meet with faculty and current OU students for one-on-one conversations.

The Muskingum University Department of Music will host its second annual Collage Concert on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. in Brown Chapel.

A collage concert is a rapid-fire showcase of both vocal and instrumental music, in which one performance begins immediately after the previous one finishes, so applause is held until the end of the concert.

A collage performance typically lasts about one hour.
