The four-day music festival Hoopla in the Hills will kick off at its new location at The Venue on Route 56 Thursday and will feature more than 60 acts on various stages.

The family-friendly festival has previously been held at Poston Lake Music Park in Guysville, but organizers switched locations this year to allow for a larger crowd.

Headlining the festival will be Papadosio, who will perform at midnight on both Friday and Saturday. While the band members now hail from Asheville, N.C., the band was first formed in Athens.

It was 50 years ago that a British rock band made its first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show and became an overnight sensation.

The introduction of the Beatles to America that night in 1964 kicked off a worldwide phenomenon that to this day has never really ended.

Beatlemania, as it was called in the day, soon had young teens crying and fainting at the sound of the band’s music.

Even after 50 years, young girls still swoon over the Beatles, including local teenager, Ariana Poe, who gets very emotional and excited at the sound of their music.

Ohio University will welcome TAO: Phoenix Rising to the Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium on Friday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m.

The group melds modern entertainment with the traditional art of Japanese drumming.

Stuart’s Opera House is hosting a special matinee with the most awarded band in bluegrass, Rhonda Vincent & The Rage, on Sunday, March 23. Vincent is currently touring in support of her new album, Only Me, which debuted at #1 on Billboard's Bluegrass Album Chart just two days after its release.

The Ohio University Zanesville Cultural Committee will host the Ohio University Jazz Ensemble I for a free concert at the Zanesville campus on Wednesday, March 19, at 7 p.m. in the Elson Hall Auditorium.  

The repertoire will include big band arrangements and original compositions by such jazz legends as Count Basie, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Christian McBride, the Stan Kenton Orchestra, the Woody Herman Orchestra and more.  

Joining the ensemble will be new faculty member in the School of Music, Dr. Sean Parsons, a talented jazz pianist.

NPR's Mountain Stage returned to Ohio University's Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium last night with a stellar lineup that included Pink Martini, The von Trapps, The Parkington Sisters, Paul Cebar Tomorrow Sound and Frank Vignola & Vinny Raniolo.

The Athens Middle School Auditorium will fill with more than 90 voices for the 19th Annual Southeastern Ohio Children’s Chorus Festival on Saturday, March 15.

The festival is part of an ongoing collaboration between the Athens Children’s Chorus, an ensemble of the Athens Community Music School, and the Hocking County Children’s Chorus in Logan.  

In addition to the local children’s choruses, the Con Brio Chorus from Worthington, Ohio, will participate as well.
