The former Modern Lovers frontman, known for his appearances on Late Night with Conan O'Brien and his role in There's Something About Mary, will perform at The Union Bar & Grill on Sunday, Nov. 17.

The Muskingum University Department of Music will host a performance by pianist John Mortensen on Friday, Nov. 15, at 7:30 p.m. in Brown Chapel. 

A professor of music at Cedarville University, Dr. Mortensen is also a concert pianist and composer.

His musical interests include Schumann, Rachmaninoff, Bach, Argentinian tango composer Astor Piazzolla and jazz pianist Oscar Peterson. 

Mortensen's performance at Muskingum will include selections by Scarlatti and Schumann, as well as some improvisations.

A band that has gained considerable popularity since its last performance in Nelsonville will be headlining next year’s Nelsonville Music Festival in May. Stuart’s Opera House has announced that The Avett Brothers will be the headliner on Saturday night of the four-day music festival.

Writer-composer David Schubach will present a musical based on the life of Aaron Burr at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21 at Ohio University-Zanesville's Elson Hall Auditorium.

This controversial and polarizing figure from our nation's youngest days is revered by some, reviled by others. While serving as Jefferson's vice president, Burr killed Alexander Hamilton in a duel.

But was Burr the traitor, murder, speculator and philanderer that he was accused of being? You decide.

Schubach presents an entertaining overview of Burr's tempestuous life and times.

"And now for something completely different" is an overused catchphrase, but Jackie O's Pub & Brewery might be justified in using it to describe an upcoming show. Tuvan throat-singing ensemble Alash will perform an intimate concert as part of the pub's new "Quiet Concert Series."

On Saturday, Nov. 9, Central Venue will host an eclectic show by Columbus-based Saintseneca, along with Athens acts Kelly Latimore and Ghost Stories.

Although the concert will be a startling mix of multi-instrumental post-punk, intimate acoustic tunes and high energy emo-rock, this should just make it all the more interesting.

Word is quickly spreading about Saintseneca. The band just played the CMJ Music Marathon in New York City and were recently picked by Rolling Stone as one of the "10 Best Discoveries" of the festival.

Section 8, Ohio University’s original male a cappella singing group, will provide the musical entertainment during the annual Ohio University-Chillicothe Heritage Day event beginning at 6 p.m. on Nov. 14 in the Stevenson Center Learning Commons.

The event is free, and members of the campus and area community are invited to attend.

Wine, other beverages and heavy snacks will be provided.

Founded in 1991, Section 8 began as an eight-member collegiate a cappella ensemble, born out of the Singing Men of Ohio, the Ohio University Men’s Glee Club.
