Bluesman Reverend Freakchild stopped by the studios of WOUB on his way back home to New York City. Freakchild has been on a cross-country road trip performing and promoting his new recording of old tunes, Chaos and the Country.

Athens, Ohio band Scubadog returned to the stage after a year-long hiatus on Nov. 21. WOUB's Brooke Herbert Hayes and John Lortie documented the band's Casa Cantina show with photos and a recording of the song "David."

The 8th annual Hoopla in the Hills has released its initial lineup for the spring festival and will be releasing names of additional artists each day until New Year’s Eve.

The outdoor music festival will be held at Poston Lake Music Park in Stewart March 27-30.

Bands announced for the festival so far include two nights of Papadosio, EOTO, Keller Williams, Cosby Sweater with Joel Cummins, Up Until Now, Grammy-winning artist Chris Berry and Abou Diarrassouba, Larry Keel & Natural Bridge, EarthCry, Rumpke Mountain Boys, David Gans and Any Colour.

From 2009 to 2012, Scubadog shook up the Athens music scene with a heady blend of indie-rock and high-energy power-pop. After a year-long hiatus, the band returns this week with a special "revival" show at Casa Cantina, along with guests Maza Blaska and Wrong Hands.

Every year for the past several years, local classic rock band The Hitch-Hikers has hosted a benefit concert for the Nelsonville Food Cupboard.

Their events have been known to bring in about $6,000. But in order to provide more consistent support for a local nonprofit that provides food to nearly 14,000 people a month, one band member wanted to do something more.

“The once-a-year influx of funds is not enough to sustain the program,” wrote Jonathan Flowers, the band’s lead singer, in a letter to The Athens Messenger.

The Muskingum Jazz Group will perform on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 7:30 p.m. in Brown Chapel on the campus of Muskingum University. 

Selections for the performance will include classic ballads, swing, Latin-American jazz, bebop and blues.

Led by trumpeter Don Kason, the group's members include Len Thomas, piano; Dave Jacobs, bass; Kenny Joseph, electric guitar; Bill Armstrong, drums; and Steve Johnson, saxophone. 

Also featured will be vocalist Jennifer Anderson, who currently performs with the Christian rock band Affix and the Rich Simcox Big Band.

If you haven't had the chance to see Ohio University's Marching 110 in action this season, don't fret.

"The Most Exciting Band in the Land" will present its annual Varsity Concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium.

Statistically, the odds of becoming a famous singer are one in 10,000.

Ironton native and Ohio University Southern student Bobbi Tussey doesn’t look to defy the odds, she just wants to be that one.

Tussey has been singing since she was able to talk, playing piano since age 5 and three years ago, started playing guitar. Her favorite instrument, however, is the one she’s had since birth.

“I just love to sing,” she said. “I always have.”
