After rapturously received performances at Stuart's Opera House in 2009 and the Nelsonville Music Festival in 2011, indie rock legends Yo La Tengo will return to Stuart's on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 8 p.m.

Since 1986, Yo La Tengo have been one of indie rock's most critically acclaimed and prolific acts, recording more than 30 albums, EPs and soundtracks. The band is currently touring in support of its latest album, Fade.

After watching a reality TV show where average citizens helped feed homeless individuals, a local man grew inspired to do something for those in need in his own community.

Jeremy Gibson, guitar player and songwriter for the band Appalachian Hillside Revolution, got together a group of friends and fellow musicians to organize a two-day concert, called One Show For One Soul, on Sept. 27 and 28.

This year’s proceeds will go to the family of Shirley Cullison, of Glouster, who recently passed away at age 70 after a bout with cancer.

Country and rock fans will find common ground when the OU Performing Arts Series welcomes platinum-selling artist Gretchen Wilson on Nov. 14. Wilson, who is primarily known as a country singer, is currently touring in support of her Under the Covers album, which features versions of rock songs by Van Morrison, Led Zeppelin and Jackson Browne, among others.

Ohio University’s School of Media Arts and Studies and School of Music will host Ira Kaplan, indie musician and frontman of Yo La Tengo, on Tuesday, Sept. 17 from 2-3 p.m. at Glidden Music Hall.

Kaplan will visit Ohio University for an onstage interview about the story and 30-year success of Yo La Tengo.

Stuart’s Opera House will welcome Asheville, N.C., band The Honeycutters on Friday, Sept. 6 at 8 p.m.

The Americana group, which has performed twice at the Nelsonville Music Festival and at a backstage show at Stuart's, has been described by Mountain Xpress as "Old school country in the truest sense, free of twang and ten-gallon hats but full of real emotion, family history, quick wit and strong liquor."

Students in a new club on the Ohio University Lancaster Campus are marching to the tune of a different drummer, except they are doing it with guitars. 

The S.T.R.U.M. (Students Teaching Rookie Undergraduate Musicians) Club started meeting last week. The club is for people of any interest or playing level, but especially those who don’t know how to play the guitar, but want to learn.

“We basically just decided there should be a club,” said OUL student Timmy Smith.

Stuart's Opera House continues its Free Summer Concert Series this Friday with a show from noted singer-songwriter and blues revivalist Corey Harris. Harris is a musician whose projects link music of the African diaspora, from American blues to reggae to West African roots.
