The 'Robobcats' go to Japan for RoboCup 2002

RoboCup is an international competition where autonomous mobile robots compete in the game of soccer. The event is held annually in Japan at the same time as the World Cup. This year the competition will be held June 19 - 25.

The Ohio University team, the "Robobcats", is one of just a few from around the nation to qualify for the tournament. David Chelberg, Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in Russ College of Engineering and Technology, is the Project of leader of the Robobcats. Chelberg and computer engineer Maarten Uijt de Haag will lead the team of 12 Ohio University undergraduate and graduate engineering students at the competition, where they'll join the ranks of other American universities such as Cornell and Carnegie Mellon.

Bryan Gibson talks with David Chelberg about RobocCup, the Robobcats, the hard work that has gone into the project, and the roles that robots can play in our society.
