Matt Eich, Carry Me Ohio

Matt Eich will deliver a presentation about his photographs from Southeast Ohio, Monday, January 23, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. in Schoonover Center, Room 145. Eich is a photographic essayist with an undergraduate degree from Ohio University School of Visual Communication and an MFA from Hartford Art School.

There is an exhibit with a selection of his photographs from his book Carry Me Ohio on display in the School of Visual Communication Gallery, Schoonover Center Room 140 from Jan. 16-31, 2017. Open hours of the gallery are 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The exhibit and presentation include photographs of people and the communities of Nelsonville, Chauncey, Glouster, Athens, Hocking Hills, Vinton County, and others.

Excerpt from Carry Me Ohio: “For the past ten years, I have made pictures of the people of this region as they attempt to recover in the aftermath of extractive industry. What I have discovered transcends any stereotypes – despite circumstances, these proud Americans persevere and cling to family, community, and land with admirable tenacity.”

The event, funded by the student organization National Press Photographers Association Ohio University and the School of Visual Communication, is free and open to the public.
