63 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Athens County for Nov. 4 – 10

ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Athens County has now had 18,822 total cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after 63 additional cases were reported since last week’s update.

The Ohio Department of Health confirmed the numbers on Nov. 10, 2022.

According to ODH data, the cases involved 12 people 20-29, 12 people 30-39, nine people 60-69, eight people 50-59, eight people 70-79, seven people 40-49, six people 0-19 and one person 80+.

There are 180 known active cases in the county as of Thursday and 18,487 recovered cases, according to ODH.

A total of 53.85% of the county has started the vaccination process and 50.20% has completed it, according to ODH. There have also been 18,833 first boosters and 7,582 second boosters and 6,027 updated boosters administered.

Anyone experiencing respiratory symptoms is asked to call their primary care physician, urgent care, or emergency department before arriving for care to let them know that they believe they are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 virus.

Thursday at 2 p.m., the Ohio Department of Health announced 10,865 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 statewide were reported since last week’s update. There were also 521 hospitalizations, 3 ICU admissions and 8 deaths reported in the same time period.

ODH makes the following recommendations to protect yourself from illness:

  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; dry hands with a clean towel or air dry hands.
  • Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are unavailable.
  • Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when sneezing or coughing. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick.
