Andre GribouIn touch with jazz

Join host Vincent Cardinal for a candid conversation with jazz musicians André Gribou, Paul Zimmermann and David Chalfant. And listen to some great jazz!

André Gribou is currently Music Director and Associate Professor in the School of Dance at Ohio University.  Among the artists he has composed for and collaborated with in the creation of dance and theater works are Gladys Bailin, Mark Dendy, Douglas Neilsen, David Parsons, Chris Aikens, Mark Haim and the Lark String Quartet.

Commissions and performances have included venues such as The    Paul ZimmermanAmerican Dance Festival, Dance Theater Workshop, P.S. 122, St. Marks Dancspace, and Baltimore Theater Project. As a pianist he has   performed solo and chamber music throughout the U.S. and Latin America, including performances at Lincoln Center, The United Nations and premieres at The American New Music Consortium. André has also served on the faculties of The Juilliard School, Trinity College, New York University and the United Nations International.

Paul Zimmermann works as a vocalist, percussionist, and actor. He has had the priviledge of sharing the stage with such musical talents as Bobby McFerrin, David Byrne, New York Voices, and Andre Gribou, among others.  He was a founding member of the a cappella group MOUTH MUSIC with Toby Twining, Mark Johnson, and Sarah Noll and went on to work with Johnson in DuoVoce, an a cappella duo. He currently sings with vocal quartet Blue Skies and in a duo setting with guitarist Steve Ramsdell. He continues to pursue on camera and studio work in his native Chicago and most recently has appeared for Visa and Baxter Pharmiceuticals.

While pursuing a B.A. in English Lit. at Trinity College David Chalfant found himself writing and performing scores for various pieces in and        around Hartford CT. Upon graduating, David was commissioned by the Trinity Theater Dept. to write scores for Arthur Feinsod's "The Lost City of Cibola" and a production of  "Archangels Don't Play Pinball"directed by Damien Popcristov. In 1992 David engineered and co-produced an Emmy-nominated theme for CBS Sports with André Gribou with whom he has worked on over twenty pieces. David has just recently completed the production of his band's (The Nields) 6th album.  The band is signed to Zoe Records in Boston.
