The Voice of the Reds

Marty Brennaman is a well-known voice to sports fans throughout our  region.  He's a thirty-four year veteran of the broadcast Marty Brennamanbusiness.

Since making his Cincinnati Reds debut in 1974, he has been named Sportscaster of the Year twelve times in Ohio. This summer, the National Baseball Hall of Fame will honor Marty Brennaman with the Ford C. Frick Award for his "major contributions to baseball" as a broadcaster.

With his longtime partner Joe Nuxhall, Marty has been the voice of some of the most memorable moments in Reds history including the glory days of the Big Red Machine.

Thom BrennamanThom Brennaman followed in his father's footsteps as a broadcaster.  Thom is a former student at Ohio University where he started his broadcast career calling Ohio University women's basketball on WATH-AM, a commercial radio station in the Athens area.

From there Thom joined WLW in Cincinnati and went on to WGN in Chicago to work with Harry Caray on Cubs broadcasts.  At that point the expansion team Arizona Diamondback came calling and Thom became their Director of Broadcast Operations.

In addition to setting up their radio network, he, of course, became their play-by-play announcer, the position he holds today. He works in the booth with another former Ohio University student, Bob Brenly, who played for the Bobcats in the late sixties and early seventies.

Marty and Thom also talk about the effect of e-mail and the World Wide Web on sports broadcasting today. Join Marty, Thom, and host Doug Partusch for a look back in time and a look forward to the future of radio, television, and the Internet.
