The State of Ohio uses public television stations like WOUB-TV to improve
the quality of care in family child care homes. By producing public service announcements
and conducting workshops for adults who care for children in their homes, the
Ohio Ready to Learn partnership is reaching thousands of providers. The goal
is to improve the quality of child care provided in the home setting with local
public television stations acting as the messenger.
Free Workshops Available From Ohio Ready to Learn
Ohio's
Ready to Learn is a joint project of the Ohio Educational Television Stations
and the Child Care Bureau of the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services.
July 1, 2006 through June 30, 2007
Topics are similar to those of 2005/2006. However, the workshops are NEW with
all-new take-home materials. Participants are encouraged to sign-up for all workshops
as a series.
Phase One: Health, Nutrition and Safety
Children, who don’t feel well, can’t learn. This workshop looks at
best practices for health, safety and good nutrition that benefit both children
and caregivers.
Phase Two: Steps to Quality Care
Using both the Family Homecare Environmental Rating Scale (FDCRS) and the Early
Language and Literacy Classroom Observation (ELLCO) as a self-assessment tool,
participants will be able to identify specific goals and strategies to raise
the level of quality in their particular environment.
Phase Three: Development, Assessment and School Readiness
Participants will review emotional, social, intellectual, physical and language
development in young children. Observation techniques, developmental checklists,
and The Ohio Department of Education’s Early Learning Content Standards
will be explored as indicators of steps toward typical development.
IACET CEU Credit 0.2 pending for each of the three workshop phases. The cost
is $10 to receive the CEU credit. Your payment must be submitted prior to or
at the time of attendance.
Note: The workshops are free; the charge is only for IACET CEUs for those
interested in CDA renewal. In-service forms will still be provided to each participant.
