Therese Larsson Hultin, a Swedish journalist, traveling across the United States on a 90-day fact-finding fellowship, is studying the role of religion in American life and American politics.

Hultin was at Ohio University as a guest of the Institute for International Journalism and the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism. During her visit, she talked with WOUB’s Tom Hodson.

“To understand the American political system, one needs to understand the role of religion in American life,” Hultin said.

Judge Williams-Byers Explains Domestic Violence Issues

Although the current spotlight has been on the National Football League (NFL) and domestic assaults perpetrated by its players, domestic violence is an all-too-often occurrence facing judges in Ohio.

It is something that Judge Gayle Williams-Byers sees almost every day as she sits in her Municipal Court room in South Euclid, outside of Cleveland.

In the 1960s, Mary Beth Tinker was a party in a famous U.S. Supreme Court case giving limited freedom of speech to public school students.  Nearly 50 years later, she is still on the same crusade to ensure students’ constitutional rights.

That quest brought Tinker to Athens to speak to Ohio University students about their First Amendment freedoms. While on campus, she spoke to WOUB’s Tom Hodson about her case and her passion for protection of constitutional rights.

Dr. Arthur Fine, emeritus professor of philosophy at the University of Washington, kicks off this season's Frontiers in Science Lecture Series at Ohio University. His topic is "What Was Einstein Thinking?" Dr. Fine is an expert on Albert Einstein and Einstein's evolution from being considered a genius by his colleagues to being considered a "heretic" by other physicists for some of his work later in his life.
