Adena State Memorial gets bicentennial makeover -- December
1, 2000
A historical site in Chillicothe is going to get a new look. The Ohio Historical Society plans to put $6.5 million into restoring the Adena State Memorial. The mansion is to be on display as part of Ohio's 2003 bicentennial celebration. Maggie Sanese, a spokeswoman for the Historical Society, says the project involves work both inside and outside the mansion. "The restorations of the mansion is only one part of the project," said Sanese. "We'll also be building a visitor center which breaks ground this spring and we'll also be restoring the gardens adjacent to the mansion." The restoration will begin next fall. Built in the early 1800's, Adena was the home of U.S. Senator and the 6th Govenor of Ohio, Thomas Worthington. The Ohio Historical Society says the project will be complete by March 2003, just in time for the bicentennial celebration. |
