Experimental pop group Animal Collective performed at the Newport Music Hall (722 N High St, Columbus, OH) on March 23, 2022. Brooklyn-based experimental act L’Rain (Taja Cheek) opened the show.
Touring their recent record “Time Skiffs,” members Avey Tare (David Portner), Panda Bear (Noah Lennox), Geologist (Brian Weitz), and Deakin (Josh Dibb) incorporated songs off the new record, several unreleased setlist staples, and undeniable fan favorites.
One song often melting into the next, Animal Collective’s performance explored everything from ecstatic crescendos to lulling, trance-like soundscapes while colorful animations projected from the mezzanine bathed the stage in shifting geometric abstraction and paper-cut figures.
