This Saturday, Casa Cantina will lend its stage to the 5th annual Bob Dylan Night.

Featuring a variety of local musicians covering selections from Dylan’s catalog, the event is a fundraiser for March of Dimes, a national charity organization dedicated to rooting out the causes of premature birth and increasing the number of healthy births across the country.

For organizer and local musician Liz Pahl, the idea of a Bob Dylan Night was a no-brainer.

“Bob Dylan is a staple of modern American music,” she said. “Many of my Dylan favorites are renditions by other people. Athens is blessed with some amazing musicians, and I’ve been able to humbly play alongside them for over a decade. I thought I’d put those two things together, and Bob Dylan Night was created.”

This year’s lineup will feature Colleen Carow of Broken Ring, Leah & Adam, Liz Pahl & the Pahlbearers, Octopus & Owl, The Porters and Whip & Tickle.

Pahl has personal motivations for putting together this annual event. Her niece was born prematurely.

“She is the real reason why I put together this night to raise money for the March of Dimes,” said Pahl.

Although her niece is now a healthy five year-old, Pahl is still dedicated to helping others dealing with the same issues.

“It’s a cause near and dear to my heart,” she explained.

The music gets underway at 10 p.m. Stewart-MacDonald of Athens is donating a make-your-own-ukulele kit to be raffled during the show.
