A battle of the brutes. The top two TVC-Ohio teams go at it on Friday, as Wellston travels to Nelsonville-York as a test for their top spot in the conference.

The Golden Rockets sit at an impressive 5-1 overall, with a 2-0 record in conference play. They have won five straight games and show no signs of slowing down. The Buckeyes hold a competitive overall record of 4-2 and also have a conference record of 2-0. Nelsonville-York is also riding a win streak going into the game on Friday, as they have won their last four games.

Both teams have caught fire in the last few weeks and seem untouchable. They both have dominant offenses, so don’t be surprised if it’s a shootout. Nelsonville-York leads the TVC-Ohio with 172 points scored in their first six games. Wellston sits at a very close second with 170 points.

It’s Mike Smith’s first season as head coach of the Golden Rockets and he has turned the team into a force to be reckoned with. Just a season ago Wellston finished up with a record of 3-7. The Golden Rockets have already almost doubled their wins from last season and they’ve only played six games.

You can’t talk about Wellston without mentioning their defense. They have only allowed 54 points through the first six games. To put that into perspective, Jackson put up 54 points against them in their first game last season! The Golden Rockets defense is the heart and soul of their team, and will be sure to challenge the Buckeyes powerhouse offense on Friday.

Keegan Wilburn and the Buckeye offense is no joke. They are averaging over 300 total yards per game. Wilburn has unstoppable this year with a total of 717 yards on the season. Last week against Meigs, Wilburn ran for 139 yards on five carries. If Wilburn and the Buckeyes offense can keep up this efficiency, Wellston will have their hands on Friday.

A lot is on the line for both teams on Friday, one of the teams win streak has to come to an end. This game also has big implications in the TVC-Ohio as both teams are undefeated in conference play. Mike Smith and the Golden Rockets travel to Nelsonville, Ohio on Friday in hopes to take one step closer to winning the conference championship.
