HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) – Six people have been arrested after a Marshall University police officer was attacked during a traffic stop.

News outlets report the incident happened early Monday after the officer pulled over a speeding vehicle on the Marshall campus in Huntington.

Police say the officer tackled one of the suspects who tried to escape before the officer was hit by three other suspects. Huntington police responded and assisted in the arrests. The officer did not require hospitalization.

Criminal complaints in Cabell County Magistrate Court charge five suspects with fleeing and four with battery on an officer. A sixth suspect was charged with obstructing an officer, possession of a controlled substance and disorderly conduct.

The suspects were taken to the Western Regional Jail. Jail records didn’t show if they had attorneys.
