Game 1

Christian Herstine threw the 21st no-hitter in team history in the No. 12 Marietta Pioneers’ 8-0 rout of the Montclair State University Eagles.

Herstine threw just 101 pitches and recorded nine strikeouts in his no-hit effort. He allowed just three base runners – all via walks – in his second win of the season.

The Pioneers’ offense got in on the party as well as it struck for six runs in the first three innings. Marietta scored a pair of unearned runs in the first and Christian Demko drove in three more with a double.

The Pioneers scored their last three runs on a pair of RBI-triples by Ryan Hanahan and Tim McCoy, and a steal of home by Mitch Geers.

Game 2

The Pioneers (6-2) dropped the second game of the day, 5-4, on a walk-off sacrifice fly in extra innings to the No. 6 Webster University Gorloks.

The Gorloks lead the Pioneers 4-0 heading into the top of the eighth, but the Pioneers slowly chipped away at the Gorloks’ lead. Demko got the Pioneers on the board with an RBI-single.

Later in the eighth, Hanahan scored a wild pitch with the bases loaded to cut the lead at 4-2.

After the Pioneers shut down the Gorloks in the bottom half of the inning, Marietta tied it up on an error and a fielder’s choice.

The excitement was short lived for Marietta.

After a scoreless top of 10th, the Gorloks took the game on a sacrifice fly.

Marietta has a quick turnaround tomorrow, as it will play a doubleheader against Wheaton College and Webster State University.
