Concealed Carry Permits In Ohio Up 47 Percent

The number of concealed-carry permits increased dramatically in Ohio last year.

In his annual report on the subject Attorney General Mike DeWine said more than 96,000 such permits were issued in the state in 2013 compared to nearly 65,000 issued in 2012.

Athens County is following the trend more than doubling the number of issued and renewed concealed-carry permits from the prior year.

Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly issued 412 licenses and renewed 298 in 2013, compared with 296 issued and 36 renewed last year.

Five concealed-carry permits were suspended and two were denied in Athens County in 2013.

Lawrence and Licking Counties issued 1,603 and 1,692 concealed carry permits respectively in 2013.

Ohio’s concealed carry permits are recognized in West Virginia and Kentucky but not Pennsylvania.
