Tickets are on sale now for the next Covered Bridge Music Series show at Ohio University Lancaster. Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter John Fullbright will perform on campus Sept. 12.

“John Fullbright is a tremendous young songwriting talent,” said Covered Bridge Music Series Committee Chair Steve Wells. “Several on our committee have witnessed his dynamic live performances in the past. It should be a fantastic evening in September.”

A plainspoken approach is part of what’s fueled the young Oklahoman’s rise. It was just a few years ago that Fullbright released his debut studio album, From The Ground Up, to critical acclaim.

The Los Angeles Times called the record “preternaturally self-assured,” while NPR hailed him as one of the “10 Artists You Should Have Known in 2012,” saying “it’s not every day a new artist…earns comparisons to great songwriters like Townes Van Zandt and Randy Newman, but Fullbright’s music makes sense in such lofty company.”

The Wall Street Journal crowned Fullbright as giving one of the year’s 10 best live performances, and the album also earned him the ASCAP Foundation’s Harold Adamson Lyric Award. From The Ground Up was also nominated for Best Americana Album at the 2013 Grammy Awards.

Fullbright will perform in the 475-seat Wagner Theatre. Tickets for the indoor show are available at www.ohio.edu/lancaster/events/coveredbridgemusicseries.cfm.

The Covered Bridge Music Series is a joint venture between Ohio University Lancaster Campus and The Lancaster Festival. The purpose of the partnership is to showcase fresh and relevant musical talent providing discovery and enjoyment for the campus and Fairfield County communities and the region.

The partnership started in the fall of 2012. Five concerts have been performed on campus. The most recent show, which was held in May, 2015, featured Texas singer-songwriters Ray Wylie Hubbard and John Evans. The concert was held outdoors near the John Bright Number 2 Covered Bridge, located on the OUL campus.

The Covered Bridge Music Series concerts generally take place twice a year (spring and fall) on the Lancaster Campus of Ohio University.
