The Federal Hocking Lancers boys and girls basketball teams combined for a five-win week. The girls picked up three victories, while the boys took two, as both groups of Lancers compiled a perfect 5-0 record for the week. According to the record books, this was the best combined week for basketball in the school’s history.

The girls started their week Monday at home against Wahama. The Lady Lancers picked up their first win of the season as they went on to win 58-43. The girls were back in action Thursday as they traveled to play southern and left with a 58-48 victory. They returned home and wrapped up the week Saturday with a 63-50 win over Eastern.

The Lady Lancers got contributions from a variety of players. Paige Tolson was on a tear this week as she put up 26, 31 and 29 points in three games, good for an average of 28.6 per game. Kylie Tabler averaged 10 points for the week and was effective from behind the 3-point line as she hit four from downtown in their win against Eastern. The team was efficient in the rebound department, as each game they had someone with at least 7 rebounds.

The Lady Lancers have strung together a three-game win streak and have a lot of confidence going into Christmas break. The girls have the rest of 2019 off as they’re next game is January 4, where they will take on Nelsonville-York.

The boys team came into the week with a record of 4-1. They began this week Tuesday where they blew out Wahama at home 77-32. They had a tougher match Friday against Eastern, but came away with an 81-70 victory.

Just like the girls, the boys got contributions from a lot of people. Against Wahama, Hunter Smith and Brad Russell led the way with 16 points. The story of this game was that 13 Lancers ended up in the scoring column. Literally everyone contributed. Against Eastern, Smith, Russell and Nathaniel Massie each had 18+ points (18, 23 and 19). Russell recorded a double-double as he also added a team-high 14 rebounds.

The Lancers are now 6-1 on the season, which is their best start in school history. Along with winning their last four, they have now equaled last season’s win total (6-17). Just like the girls, the boys will not play again until January 4 when they take on Nelsonville-York.

Overall, a pretty good week for Lancer basketball.
