An upcoming film festival will be shining a light on the role of the developmentally disabled.

The 2013 Sprout Film Festival will be featuring eight to ten short films that are both produced by and are about developmentally disabled people.

Festival Founder Anthony Di Salvo said this year's entries aren't usually the type of films people think about when they hear about films about the developmental disabilities.

"They are personal, touching and memorable," said Di Salvo.

The Sprout Film Festival is based in Manhattan and will be showcasing around 200 films related to the field of developmentally disabled.

Di Salvo hopes that the films will represent developmentally disabled people in an intellegent and insightful manner.

"We are trying to break the stigma of people being uncomfortable seeong individuals with developmental disabilties," said Di Salvo.

The film festival will be held March 13 from 7-9 pm in Wagner Hall on Ohio University's Lancaster campus.

Admssion is free and those who attend are encouraged to participate in Di Salvo's Q & A session after the festival has concluded.
