A wind chill advisory is in effect for much of the region until 1 a.m. Friday.

Both Ohio University and Athens City Schools will be closed Thursday. Wind chills could get as low as 19 below zero.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a high Thursday of 5 degrees with a westerly wind of 9 to 13 miles per hour.

All residence halls, dining halls, and food courts on OU’s Athens campus will operate as normal. Three buildings will remain open on campus for specific hours: Baker University Center from 7am to midnight, Ping Recreation Center from noon to 10pm, and Alden Library during certain hours.

Rio Grande University and Rio Grande Community College will also close early today and re-open tommorrow with a two-hour delay.

Ohio University recommends if traveling outside to wear extra layers and to take extra time going from place to place.
