A $10 million fundraising campaign is under way to build West Virginia's first residential treatment facility for addiction.

Officials for the T-Center say there's a need for residential, family and outpatient services in the state.

The center's board chairman Rick Otten says recent statistics show that drug overdoses now kill more West Virginians than car accidents.

While some treatment facilities in the state offering seven-day programs, backers said the new facility would have longer treatments to deal with detoxification, extended care, family and therapeutic living programs.

Officials say the closest facilities offering extended addiction treatment are in Pittsburgh and Greensboro, N.C.

WCHS-TV reports that if the funding campaign is successful, officials are hopeful the T-Center will be completed by late 2016. The center's location is still being determined.
