A pioneer in the Human Genome Project shared with faculty, staff and students his views on science and laboratory advances during a visit on campus today.

Dr. Leroy Hood, Ohio University's Fritz J. and Dolores H. Russ College of Engineering and Technology 2011 Russ Prize recipient, spoke at the Baker University Center Theatre.

Hood discussed his observations of biology and lab efforts, emerging technologies that will transform medicine over the next 10 years and his theory that medicine will ultimately be transformed from its currently reactive to state to a proactive one.

Hood developed four instruments that contributed to the successful mapping of the human genome, has helped establish more than 14 biotechnology companies, and has received 17 honorary degrees from universities in the United States and abroad.
