The Ohio Department of Transportation has been awarded $150,400 to help preserve the Johnson Road Covered Bridge in Jackson County.

The money comes from the U.S. Department of Transportation and will be used "to replace the floor systems, lateral bracing, siding, and the roof, and install new bearing blocks and fire protection."

"The Johnson Road Covered Bridge in Jackson County is an important historical landmark to the community," U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) said in a news release. "With these Department of Transportation resources, we can help restore this bridge for Ohioans for years to come."

The bridge was built in 1870 and crosses the Little Scioto River.
