Nelsonville-York led for nearly the entire game but were unable to hang on in the final minutes. Despite having several chances to tie or take the lead, the Buckeyes (5-8, 1-6 TVC-Ohio) were unable to execute a play and dropped a gut-wrenching 62-57 decision to the Meigs Marauders (4-10, 2-5) Tuesday night at home.

The teams went back and forth in the first half. Justin Perry’s three-pointer with 4:44 to play in the second quarter gave the Buckeyes the largest lead of the game for either team, 28-17.

From there, the Marauders fought back to stop the Buckeyes’ momentum and cut the lead to six, 34-28, at halftime.

Both teams traded buckets to start the second half with neither team able to gain any momentum. Ethan Bohyer’s and-one with 2:58 to play in the third quarter looked like the separation the Buckeyes needed, but the lead never got above eight points in the third frame.

Holding an eight-point lead with 6:17 to play in the game, the Buckeyes decided to try and kill the clock, but Meigs was not going to go away quietly. A pair of Zack Bartram free throws cut the lead to six with 3:30 to play.

One minute later, Nick Lilly three-pointer cut the lead to one, 53-52, with 2:27 left in the game.

Meigs forced a turnover and Weston Baer drew a foul with 2:20 left in the game, trailing by one. Baer hit both free throws and the Marauders took a 54-53 lead.

They never trailed again.

The lead remained at one point until a Bartram and-one gave the Marauders a four-point lead, 57-53, with 1:34 to play. Two Baer free throws iced the game, 61-56, with 33 seconds left.

Weston Baer led the Marauders with 30 points and three rebounds. Zack Bartrum chipped in with 14 points and seven boards. Leading the way for the Buckeyes was Ethan Bohyer with 15 points and seven rebounds. Bohyer fould out with 2:20 left in the game. Brayden Allen also had 11 points and five boards.
