A Marietta woman faces up to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to social security fraud in U.S. District Court Wednesday.

Patricia Hodges, 65, admitted to concealing her mother's death in order to continue receiving the deceased woman's Social Security benefits.

Hodges told inspectors during a November 2011 interview her mother was on a cruise and planned to live with a relative in New York after the trip.

Her mother would have been 103 years old at the time of the interview.

Marietta police and Social Security investigators later determined Hodges' mother had died in 1997 and Hodges had buried her body in the backyard of a Florida home where they lived.

Hodges collected nearly $142,000 in benefits between 1997 and 2011.

Hodges remains free on bond pending a sentencing hearing.
