Stingy New Lexington Defense to be Tested Vs. Tri-Valley

Despite dropping its first two games of the season, New Lexington has righted the ship and won its last two games, outscoring opponents 50-20.

After winning the starting job for the Panthers, senior quarterback Mitch Wycinski has since lost the starting job to junior Bradley Clapper. The switch may be just what New Lexington needs to try and jumpstart this Panther offense that was sluggish in the first few weeks of the season. They failed to put up points in either of their first two games.

The Panther defense will face its toughest test of the season on Friday when they host Muskingum Valley League rival, the Tri-Valley Scotties.

Tri-Valley is coming off of its first loss of the season, a defensive battle it squandered to Zanesville, 10-7.

It’s not everyday an opponent can hold Tri-Valley to such a low score. The Scotties had scored at least 30 points in each game so far this year before last week’s loss to Zanesville.

Tri-Valley is led by dual-threat quarterback Tyler McGee, along with running back Cody Collins and wide receivers Logan Hittle and Colin Slaboden.

Tri-Valley may be loaded with weapons, but it’s not the first time this season New Lexington will face a loaded MVL foe. In week two, the Panthers held Maysville to just 21 points, its lowest score of the season.

The last time the Panthers were able to defeat the Scotties was back in 2008. In order to beat the Scotties on Friday, not only will New Lexington have to light a fire under its offense, but they could use a few pointers from Zanesville’s defensive plan on how to stop Tri-Valley.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in New Lexington.
